Top 10 Biggest Promises Trump Has Failed to Keep

Nineteen months into his second presidency, Trump has changed Washington dramatically — but many of the promises that brought him back to power remain undelivered.

Donald Trump did not ask Americans to elect him so he could try.

He asked them to elect him because he said he knew how to deliver.

That distinction matters.

Trump’s 2024 campaign was built around unusually concrete claims. He would end wars. Bring prices down. Cut energy costs in half. Carry out the largest deportation operation in American history. Abolish the Department of Education. Shrink the federal government. End birthright citizenship.

The argument underneath all of them was the same.

America’s problems were not especially difficult. They persisted because weak leaders, incompetent bureaucrats and cowardly politicians refused to solve them.

Trump would.

Nineteen months later, there is no serious argument that his presidency has lacked force.

He has transformed immigration enforcement, overturned decades of trade orthodoxy, imposed sweeping tariffs, attacked large parts of the administrative state and dramatically expanded presidential power.

But disruption is not delivery.

Executive orders are not outcomes.

Announcements are not achievements.

And a president who campaigns on the claim that only he can solve problems cannot indefinitely retreat to the argument that those problems turned out to be complicated.

That is precisely the excuse Trump spent years ridiculing.

The fairest way to judge his second term is therefore the standard he set for himself: not whether he acted, but whether he produced the results he promised.

On his biggest promises, he has not.

These are the ten most significant.
